Paul  Carrington
Doctor of Laws  1980
Status: conferred

Distinguished lawyer, Paul Carrington has been a major force in the American legal profession. From a broad range of interest, he has contributed significantly to such important developments as alternative systems for delivery of legal services, alternatives to the courts for dispute resolution, ethics and responsibilities of lawyers, modern statutes governing business organizations, and efficient organization and management of law firms. A frequent writer for legal journals and lecturer at continuing education programs, he created a comprehensive and thoughtful university seminar on The Future of the Legal Profession. For his energetic lifelong dedication to professionalism; for his vision of law as an adaptable technique for meeting the needs of people, organizations, and government; and for his implementation of that vision, Southern Methodist University is proud to confer upon Paul Carrington the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
